| Comments: | No Diane, there's no north/south divide they were called kernockers as well here. They knocked the hell out of your wrists, I had a lump the size of a tennis ball on my left wrist from being able to work them with both hands. I was upset when they were banned and the 90's version on a stick was rubbish, but you should have seen my mother squirm when they came back. |

| Comments: | God, I remember the clackers, I've just had a laugh thinking about your description, Diane. If they didn't fly off, you would get so intense and enthusiastic about keeping them going that, if you weren't careful, you'd get brained. It was good to have a laugh, the yankee humour is a bit different to ours. If it wasn't for my weekly dose of Cold Feet I don't know what I would do! |

| Comments: | i lived down south when "clackers" were out, but we called them "kernockers" (must be a north/south divide thing) i'm sure they were banned eventually cos they kept flying off, all i remember is bruised knuckles and a then impressive 50 goes without stopping :) |

| Comments: | What happenned to Pete Honeyman's Barracuda? They get a mention in the rock review, albeit brief, but where are they now? Is there a chance of them reforming? I also recall that Philip Northway and Tim Jenkins were their roadies. |

| Comments: | There's some really good memory stuff going on here. I remember the clickers, I've got the scars to prove it, they tore your fingers to ribbons. Don't forget the clackers, the balls on string you banged together, oh dear that doesn't sound a very good description!! |

God! those were the days!......Yes, I remember those clicker things....used to drive parents mad but we had jolly good fun winding them up! Although the person who sent in the querie must be so ashamed of themselves to not leave an E-mail!! |

| Comments: | What is all this about my nose?!! It is not one of those plastic jobs - it is the one the good Lord blessed me with. The only addition is a slight smattering of make up.(for a definition of the word 'smattering' please refer to your dictionary of builders terms in the sub-section plastering and trowel techniques) |

| Comments: | Everytime I go into the teachers picture 1969 to see if I can remember anymore names, I swear Mrs Berry is coming further and further out of the picture at me. Does anyone not think she looks bigger than anyone else? God the woman still frightens the living daylights out of me, everytime I see her face I put my chewing gum in the bin. |

| Comments: | Diane, ref. the petite female art teacher, I feel sure that one of my old "muckers" from School, namely Michael Steel(e), would be able to answer that ! |

| Comments: | Right you lot out there - I am normally of good memory but there was another female art teacher around about 74/75, she was very petite, can anyone give a name. She and Chrissy used to sunbathe around the back of the art block, rather scantily may I say for the 70's. |

| Comments: | For Alun and anyone else who is interested, I have been informed by my son Michael who is at Wetherby High, that Mr Hunter no longer teaches there. I definitely haven't seen him for a while at parents evening. My son is a devil he only gets me appointments with teachers who aren't going to say too much. I have been wanted to see Mr Pawson for three years and Michael keeps telling me he doesn't see parents, yet there is always a wooden table with his name on it. Sorry I drifted. Alun anything you need to know about school ask and I will see if Michael knows the answer, if not I will get him to find out. If anyone is interested also I see a lot of Mrs Wilkinson [English Teacher] she hasn't altered one bit, if anyone wants any message passing to her let me know as I see her most Thursdays, nice messages please. |

Anyhow, as we seem to be getting into some Teacher Nostalgia here lately, can you Diane (or anyone else) update me about my A-level Maths teacher (circa 1975/77) Mr. Hunter? | Comments: | Also, sad to learn about Mr. Dyer! Anyway, many thanks to the ubiquitous & well informed Miss Bonner for her comments confirming that it was indeed Mr. Jim Frusher who was affectionately known as Catweazle, & that he is teaching his own inimitable brand of Physics (possibly in the same room). Brings back memories of the many dubious delights of investigating the dynamics of mini-trolleys by means of the Ticker-Tape Vibrator, & I cant even mention the unmentionable Dust Tube experiment of acoustics (Nelkon & Parker, 3rd Edition, page 666 !) |

Who remembers Collingham Youth Club or the Barleycorn in its hey day. the place to be seen? Memories!!!! Question: Is Tony Jacobs now Steve Bruce? The Daggetts crossed the Yorks?Lancs border eight years ago. I am now the editor in chief of East Lancashire Newspapers - not bad for someone who thought that Kes was a literary classic! | Comments: | Just thought I'd join in with this
'teachers' nostalagia. I for one owe the late Barry
Sellers a big thankyou for support over some rather
unpleasant periods/situations. His reports in the book
provide evidence. I too remember John Wardle, Chris
Collings (correct spelling!) and Geoff Larwood and some
good laughs in the ROSLA art rooms. Going to Jacob Kramer
was actually a step backwards for the 4 of us who went
from WHS. Coincidence time: I moved back to the Wetherby
area (Leeds) in '92 and about 18 months later I was
walking round the 1812 Gallery in Shipley when a voice
behind me said : "I can't remember your name but I never forget a face." Blimey, John Wardle, hasn't seen me for 18 years but can still recognise me - how? because I have changed! |

| Comments: | Julie West, yes was in Patsy's year and am still cute-millions cant be wrong-say Hi to Patsy. Art teachers - great - Barry Sellers was a one off and an ace bloke. Was Miss Collinge the one with the thigh lengh boots? Hope so and that I'm not fantasising over nothing! John Wardle was excellent - think his wife taught me at Crossley Street School. Didnt do o level art, but first heard Lou Reed's "Transformer" Album there - my first record purchase. Still listen to it - beats Westlife anyday. Always ready for a reunion. |

| Comments: | I think all the art teachers were stars, they treat you like you were adults and it made a difference. Chrissy Collins made me laugh in one lesson she was reading a letter from her hubby which started Dear Cow, I said are you gonna kill him, she said no its a compliment a cow is a beautiful creature. Don't forget Mr Wardle he lives in Wetherby again and he was a damn good art teacher as well. So I think the saying is "respect" to the art teachers. |

Me and my mates used to swoon over him in his leathers, or anything that he wore. He made Wetherby High school interesting for a while. |

| Comments: | A friend said to me there aren't many pictures of the 80's, well you 80's people hassle your parents, their friends anyone you know who had kids at school with you to get the pictures on site. There should be lots of 90's and 2000 pictures as these won't have been locked in the attic yet. I know some of you live abroad but if your relatives are in England hassle them for the photos if they had kids at Wetherby schools or the surrounding Junior schools, if 10 classes were photographed in one session surely at least one person from each class will have purchased a photo. Lets everyone of us keep this brilliant website going. That's me off my soapbox for another day. |

| Comments: | 'Puck' Walker! There's a name I haven't heard in a long time. I remember Miss Parkinson shouting at Puck and I for some minor misdemeanour at Collingham school in early 1970. Whatever happened to him? Is he one of the great un-named in the Collingham school photo on the site? |

| Comments: | Mr Palmer - The Rural Studies teacher was also a skilled Fire fighter. In one lesson someone set fire to the paper towel dispenser with a bunsen burner, with flames blazing Mr Palmer ripped it off the wall and threw it into the sink. Puck "it was an accident, sir" Walker was one of the first on the scene. We all backed him up, of course. Well, he may have been innocent! |

| Comments: | I've just been looking at the sheep link in the 70's archive. Did school keep one of the lambs and call it 'Lambsy'. If I remember correctly it turned into a brute and butted anyone who went near rural studies. Do you think Harry Fitton had it for dinner? Or did we!!!!! |
