School Dinners - and not a Turkey Twizzler in sight!

With the passage of time, even school dinners can seem like proper cordon blue scoff. I can distinctly and fondly remember some of the stuff served up in the dining hall. If you can add to this most distinguished of menus, please do.

• oven-baked fish fingers.
• roast potatoes - always nice and crispy.
• squashed fly pie - a minced meat and onion base, topped with a delicious glazed pastry topping - quite bitter.
• gravy, served up in aluminium jugs - again, quite bitter.
• jam sponge pudding - very eggy.
• custard - served in aluminium jugs with a skin on top. Choice of pink, white or yellow.
• tap water served in a distinctive glass, made in France. Name on the base : D - - - x?? (Wasn't Durex was it???)
• chicken soup - the most fantastic thing after a cold and muddy morning on the playing fields.
• anything else?
