Blurb: On the 15th April 1983 something very special happened at Wetherby High School. Six young bands and two dance
groups were brought together to make - THE ROCKSHOP.
The youngest performers were around thirteen and the
oldest around nineteen, and apart from their skills as performers
what they had in common was that at least one member of each band
and all the dancers were members of the school. A bubble of
talent gathered around the town. Previously the separate groups had played at youth clubs and
parties and school events with whatever equipment they could
muster. Tonight they would share their stage and their equipment
- and a professional public address system. Tonight they would be
heard properly, and seen properly thanks to the elaborate
lighting designed by the school's lighting students. Together they would sweat their way through the tension and exhilaration of three hours of rock performance. This was to be no second-rate emulation of a rock concert. Through the sheer enthusiasm and talent of the performers, helped by a technical crew who obviously knew their stuff, the ROCKSHOP had all the atmosphere and electricity of a real gig!
